Overview

Wombats live a mostly solitary life.

There are 3 different species of wombat; The Northern hairy-nose wombat is Australia’s most endangered mammal with only an estimated 250 individuals remaining.

Even though wombats walk with an ‘awkward little wobble’, when needed, they are able to sprint to speeds of up to 40 km/hour!

Wombats are vegetarian. Their diet mainly consists of roots, scrubs, grass and bark.

Wombats are the closest living relative to the koala, and like their tree-dwelling cousins are found only here in Australia.
