These adorable animals originate from the grassland and deserts in the southern area of the African continent.
Meerkats are extremely social animals who live together in burrows, which they dig with their long, sharp claws.
A family group of meerkats can be called a ‘mob’, ‘gang’ or ‘clan’. These groups usually contain around 20 meerkats, but sometimes have as many as 50!
A portion of proceeds from every Meerkat Encounter will be donated to Paradise Country’s Save a Mate’ conservation campaign, proudly supported by the Sea World Foundation.

Mum Aya, the glue that holds the little family together! She was born in 2015, and although young, has proven to be an incredible mother, having successfully raised several litters of pups. You will often find Aya taking the role of ‘lookout’ more often than not, ensuring her little family are safe from predators like eagles, from above.
Sarabi – the big sister! Aya’s eldest daughter, born in 2019 is one of the more dominant and active members of the family. She is bold and confident in nature and is often the first one in the family to investigate new objects and scenarios. Sarabi is an excellent back-up lookout for her mum and helps keep a firm eye on her little sisters.
Keeya and Maliah – the twins! Born in August 2020, this delightful duo are the youngest pups for mum Aya, and make up the rest of the meerkat mob at the zoo. Although they are twins, the pair are easy to distinguish from each other. Keeya is known for her fluffy coat which stands out amongst the rest, whereas Maliah, with her long and slender features, looks a lot like her big sister Sarabi.
