Merino
More than 80 per cent of all Australian sheep are pure Merino with most of the remainder at least part Merino blood. Merino is bred primarily for its heavy fleeces of fine wool.
Each adult Merino produces about 4.5 kilograms of wool per year in Queensland. A typical Queensland adult Merino sheep weighs about 45 kilograms and lambs weigh about four kilograms at birth.
